Botox in New York allows patients to enjoy wrinkle-free skin that looks more youthful. This injectable treatment is a popular non-surgical solution to shallow age lines and fine wrinkles.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Many wrinkles are caused by repeatedly making the same facial expressions and performing the same facial movements over the course of our lives. These activities make it harder for the muscles to relax back to their at-rest state. This makes the skin bunch, forming facial wrinkles.

Botox is effective in paralyzing muscles temporarily in order to reduce facial wrinkles. When injected, Botox blocks chemical signals to contracted muscles, allowing them to relax.

Botox is an injectable cosmetic product composed of botulinum toxin type A. It is minimally invasive, FDA-approved, and quite safe. Pregnant women and people with protein (cow’s milk) allergies should not get Botox treatment.

WHAT CAN BOTOX BE USED TO ADDRESS?

Botox injections can be used to resolve vertical lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, chin wrinkles, and harsh vertical neck bands. They have also been effective in treating conditions like excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), migraine headaches, lazy eye, and an overactive bladder.

YOUR INITAL CONSULTATION

During your consultation, make sure to provide information on any past Botox treatments. Let Dr. Bradley know if you are taking any medications or supplements. It will also be important to mention any allergies.

Doctors recommend not drinking alcohol for at least a week before your Botox session. Avoid taking NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) at least two weeks before treatment to reduce bruising.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT SESSION

Botox is an outpatient procedure and is done in the office. The treatment session typically takes less than 20 minutes. A local or topical anesthetic may first be administered.

Small amounts of Botox are injected at specific sites with a fine needle. The number of injections required is decided by the doctor based on your need.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

Once the injections are administered, patients can return home. No downtime or recovery time is needed, and patients often go right back to work immediately after a treatment session. A minor degree of swelling, bruising, or redness may be present.

After the injection, you should not lie down for four hours. Per doctor’s instructions, do not massage or put pressure on the injection site for 24 hours after treatment. This is to prevent Botox from spreading to other areas.

The full effects of Botox injections are apparent within seven to ten days. Results wear off after around four months. Your doctor will let you know how often you need to get additional treatments to maintain desired results.

BOTOX COST

The price of your Botox treatment will depend on the number of units used and the number of wrinkles being treated. Remember that Botox injections are cosmetic treatments and due to this, the cost is not usually covered by insurance.
