Botox
Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in Manhattan, New York City and Lake Success, NY

Botox (BOTOX®) is an injectable treatment that can restore a more youthful-looking appearance by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for the development of visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. These concerns form when you repeatedly make the same facial expressions or movements throughout the course of your life. While they are natural, these movements can make it difficult for our skin to smooth itself out, sometimes resulting in an aged or tired appearance. Botox offers a safe and effective solution for each of these worries and more, allowing you to achieve a look that truly reflects your vitality.
FORMA is one of New York City’s leading aesthetic plastic surgery practices and medical spas. Our team is led by Dr. James P. About Botox
Botox is an FDA-approved treatment that can address several medical and cosmetic concerns. This neuromodulator treatment derives from the protein botulinum toxin type A. (1) This means that it inhibits the release of certain neurotransmitters responsible for the repeated movements that lead to the formation of wrinkles and creases, as well as migraines and other muscular concerns. (2) By addressing the responsible muscles, you can both reduce your existing concerns and also prevent new ones from forming.
Benefits of Botox
There are numerous benefits that you may experience when receiving Botox, including:
- Softened Signs of Aging: Botox can effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles, creases, fine lines, crow’s feet, vertical neck bands, and more, allowing you to achieve an appearance that reflects your inner youth.
- Preventative Care: Our team can administer this treatment to younger patients to address early wrinkles before they deepen as a form of “prejuvenation,” or preventative rejuvenation.
- Enhanced Comfort: Your specialist can administer Botox to reduce the discomfort of chronic migraines, eye muscle disorders, and involuntary muscle spasms.
- Improved Functionality: Botox can address several functional and autonomic concerns, such as excessive sweating, speech impediments, and adult bladder dysfunction. (1, 3)
- Short Treatment Time: This treatment takes less than 20 minutes to administer, allowing busier patients to schedule and attend their appointments with ease.
- Lasting Results: The results of Botox can last for several months before we recommend returning for maintenance injections.
- Non-Surgical Techniques: Botox is an injectable solution, which means that you will not need to worry about an extensive recovery time, incisions, or the use of general anesthesia.
Botox Candidates
You may be an ideal candidate for Botox if you have started developing visible signs of facial aging and wish to address them to restore a more youthful-looking appearance. These include wrinkles, creases, fine lines, vertical neck bands, and crow’s feet. You may also benefit by receiving Botox for other health concerns, such as speech impediments, excessive sweating, an overactive bladder, chronic migraines, involuntary blinking, and spasticity. (1)
To qualify for Botox, you should be in good general health. It is also important that you maintain realistic expectations regarding your results. Your specialist will assess your candidacy during your personal consultation.
We do not recommend this treatment for anyone who may be pregnant or breastfeeding, has allergies to certain proteins, or possesses certain neuromuscular conditions. If these apply to you, we still invite you to schedule a consultation so our team can help you find a suitable alternative.
Your Personal Consultation

No two patients are alike, which is why we require each patient to attend a personal consultation before receiving their injections. During this consultation, your specialist will meet with you to explain what Botox treatments consist of, learn more about your medical history, and listen to your personal concerns and goals. They will also perform a physical evaluation to assess your facial anatomy and skin quality.
Using this information, your specialist will determine whether Botox is right for you and create your personalized treatment plan. They will determine your ideal dosage and select muscles to target. They may suggest integrating another procedure or treatment alongside yours, depending on your desired results. Your specialist will also take the time to answer and address each of your questions. By the time you leave this meeting, you will have a full understanding of what Botox is, as well as a customized solution for your concerns.
If you are ready to schedule this consultation, we invite you to either contact us online or call our Manhattan office at (917) 352-4799.
Preparation
Once you have scheduled your injections, there are certain preparations that you will need to make. Your specialist will provide instructions to help you, which may include:
- Refraining from any medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties.
- Modifying your skincare routine to avoid strong or irritating products that may affect your skin’s natural barrier function.
- Maintaining your skin’s hydration levels by wearing moisturizers and drinking plenty of water.
- Avoiding tanning products, as well as direct or excessive sun exposure.
- Protecting your skin by wearing sunscreen, even on overcast or cloudy days.
- Ceasing any nicotine or alcohol consumption several days before and after your appointment.
- Arriving at your appointment with clean skin that is free from any makeup, skincare products, or facial jewelry.
Procedure
Our team of specialists performs Botox injections at our office on an outpatient basis. The length of your treatment may vary, but most appointments last less than 20 minutes.
When you arrive, your injection specialist will lead you to a private treatment room where they will reconfirm your established treatment plan. They will cleanse your skin and, if necessary, will either administer a topical or local anesthetic to enhance your comfort.
They will measure out your appropriate Botox dosage before injecting it into various facial muscles. They will specifically target the muscles responsible for the dynamic movements that lead to facial aging, migraines, spasms, and more. After your injections are complete, you will be free to leave.
Recovery
Botox has no required downtime, which means that you can return to your routine immediately after receiving your injections. However, there are certain guidelines that you will need to follow to avoid irritating the injection sites as they heal. These may direct you to:
- Avoid lying down for at least four hours after your appointment.
- Refrain from massaging or putting pressure on your injection sites.
- Abstain from engaging in any physically demanding activities for at least 24 to 48 hours.
During this time, you may also experience some swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the injection sites. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own with time, but you may also manage them using a cold compress intermittently.
Results
You will be able to enjoy the initial results of your injections after several days, but it may take between seven and ten days for the final, refined results to develop. Your results will vary, but you can expect to experience smoother skin and a more vibrant, youthful-looking appearance. You may also experience improvements in your personal comfort and daily performance if you address any medical or functional concerns.
The duration of the results can vary between patients depending on their dosage and targeted concerns. Most patients experience effects lasting between three and five months for cosmetic use, and six to nine months when addressing functional or autonomic concerns. (1)
We recommend that patients receive maintenance injections every six months. Through this, patients can protect their investment, enhance outcomes, and prolong the results of both Botox and other anti-aging and skincare treatments.

We offer several different types of chemical peels to address certain concerns, such as uneven skin tone, uneven texturing, sun damage, fine lines, and more. Your specialist can tailor each of these solutions to help you achieve your desired results, no matter how subtle or striking you want them to be.
