About Microneedling RF
Microneedling RF is a minimally invasive treatment that can refresh the appearance, elasticity, and health of your skin. This treatment creates a controlled injury to your skin’s surface while also gently heating its underlying layers to contract and tighten it. This process stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin fibers. These proteins are necessary for maintaining your skin. Collagen provides structural support, strength, and flexibility, (2) while elastin provides stretch, recoil, and elasticity. (3) By replenishing these proteins, you can achieve a smoother, softer, and more youthful-looking appearance.

Personal Consultation
Each patient’s skin is different, which is why we ask that you attend a personal consultation before undergoing your treatment. During this consultation, one of the FORMA skin experts will meet with you individually to discuss microneedling RF, its benefits, and its limitations. They will also ask you about your medical history, skin concerns, and desired results, and assess your skin’s natural quality and condition. They will then use this information to create a comprehensive treatment plan for your unique concerns.
If you are ready to schedule this consultation and receive your tailored treatment plan, please contact us online or call (917) 352-4799.
Preparation
Once you have scheduled your treatment, you will need to make a few preparations to prime your skin. Your skin expert will give you a set of straightforward instructions. These generally include:
- Ceasing Specific Medications: Under the proper medical guidance, discontinue using any blood-thinning medications or supplements.
- Altering Your Routine: Avoid using any harsh or irritating skincare products before your procedure.
- Avoiding the Sun: Refrain from using tanning products, as well as any excessive or unprotected sun exposure.
- Refrain from Substances: Stop consuming alcohol and nicotine leading up to your appointment.
- Arrive Prepared: Arrive at your appointment with clean skin that is free of any makeup or skin care products. If applicable, please also remove any facial piercings.
Procedure
Our skin experts perform each microneedling RF treatment in our office. Upon your arrival, your skin expert will lead you to a private treatment room and reconfirm each detail of your treatment plan. They will then cleanse your skin, and you will receive a local anesthetic to elevate your comfort throughout the experience.
Your skin expert will then use a handheld device fashioned with fine needles and pass it over your target concerns. As the device passes over the skin, the needles will gently penetrate your skin and emit the RF energy. This creates controlled damage to the skin’s surface while also heating its underlying layers, which will contract the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin fibers. Your skin expert will repeat these motions until they have addressed the entire treatment area evenly.
Recovery
One of the primary benefits of microneedling RF is that there is little to no recovery time, which means you will be able to return to most of your daily activities immediately. You may experience some redness or sensitivity in the treated areas, but these effects will subside on their own as you continue to recover. You may also experience some light scabbing or flaking, but this is a natural part of your skin’s renewal process.
As this occurs, you will need to avoid wearing makeup for the first 24 to 48 hours of your recovery. You will also need to limit your sun exposure and refrain from using irritating skincare products.
Your skin expert will give you a full set of aftercare instructions when meeting with you in-person. Our team will remain available to provide you with any additional information or guidance.
Results
Your microneedling RF results will continuously become more prominent as your internal collagen and elastin levels increase over the following weeks to months. While your results may vary, you can generally expect smoother, firmer, and clearer skin. You may also notice a reduction in your wrinkles, creases, fine lines, and other visible signs of aging.
The results of your microneedling RF treatment are lasting, with effects that can last for several months. To best preserve your results, we recommend maintaining an effective skincare regimen and wearing the proper sun protection when leaving the house.

FAQ
Is there a difference between traditional microneedling and microneedling RF?
Traditional microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled damage to the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin fibers. Microneedling RF builds off of this by adding radiofrequency energy, which can contract the skin and expedite the neocollagenesis and neoelastinogenesis.
How many microneedling RF treatment sessions will I need?
The number of microneedling RF treatment sessions you undergo will vary depending on the extent of your corrections.
What concerns can microneedling RF treat?
Microneedling RF can address concerns such as skin laxity, pigmentary irregularities, facial scarring, melasma, uneven skin texturing, wrinkles, fine lines, and creases.
Will I be able to wear makeup during my recovery period?
It is not advisable to wear makeup for the first 24 to 48 hours of your recovery, as it may irritate your healing skin. After this period, you may reintegrate makeup back into your personal routine.
When will I be able to see the results of my microneedling RF treatment?
Microneedling RF yields gradual results that will become more pronounced as your internal collagen and elastin levels rise. This can take several weeks to months to occur.
Does microneedling RF have any risks?
Complications are rare and fairly minimal, but they include discomfort during the treatment, irritation, redness, mild swelling, local infections, allergic reactions, and more. (1) Your skin expert will discuss each one to give you a full understanding.
Can my skin expert combine other skin treatments or procedures with microneedling RF?
Yes, depending on your goals, your skin expert can combine your treatment alongside several others to help you attain more comprehensive or cohesive results. They may include advanced facial treatments, injectables, and laser and light treatments.
