Dr. James P Bradley is board-certified in both plastic surgery and general surgery. As a professor and Vice Chairperson at Northwell Health Plastic Surgery, Dr. Bradley specializes in craniofacial and cosmetic surgery. He is on the medical team of NextGenFace Foundation.
Dr. Bradley received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame where he double majored in Art and Anthropology. He attended medical school at Thomas Jefferson Medical College and did his general surgery residency at Pennsylvania Hospital. Dr. Bradley went on to do his plastic surgery training at New York University, and the prestigious Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, and cosmetic training at Manhattan Eye and Ear Institute.
Dr. Bradley finished his training by completing a craniofacial fellowship at UCLA under Dr. Henry Kawamoto. He was first recruited to Children’s Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh as the Director of Craniofacial Surgery. He then spent 12 years at UCLA as the Bernard Sarnat Chair for Craniofacial Research. He then lead the Division of Plastic Surgery at Temple University in Philadelphia as Chief. Most recently, he was recruited to be the Vice Chairperson at Northwell Health.
He specializes in facial cosmetic surgery. His aim is to help patients achieve their goals of a more natural and youthful appearance. At his consultation, he works directly with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan designed to enhance one’s own natural features. His state-of-the-art techniques have attracted patients from around the world.
In addition to his cosmetic practice, Dr. Bradley is dedicated to the treatment of children born with severe facial deformities. He treats children in need of craniofacial reconstruction at Cohen Children’s Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital. As the medical director for the Future Faces Foundation, and now NextGenFace (non-profit organizations), Dr. Bradley has performed numerous life-changing craniofacial procedures for underprivileged children.
Dr. Bradley’s research interests: bone biology and regenerative medicine. His innovative studies have resulted in a reduction of pain for children requiring craniofacial surgery and improvement in patient outcome and satisfaction.
Dr. Bradley has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, 2 books, and 35 chapters. Considered an expert in his field, Dr. Bradley has lectured all over the world and has been featured in local and national media.

Bradley Surgical Research Scholars

Meghan Miller is the current Bradley Surgical Research Scholar working with Dr. Bradley and the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Northwell Health. Meghan was awarded the title of Bradley Scholar after graduating from Duke University with distinction and a Double Major in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies and Global Health with Double Minors in Chemistry and Biology. She will attend UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine starting fall of 2023 to obtain her M.D. and continue advocating for LGBTQ+ rights within medicine. Bradley Surgical Research Scholar Program
The Bradley Surgical Research Scholar Program at Northwell Health is a unique and competitive program that provides a comprehensive clinical experience for gap year students with a passion for craniofacial surgery, transgender medicine, and research. Applicants must have completed undergraduate school and be in the process of applying to medical school or on a gap year from medical school.
Surgical Scholars choose this program because of their interest in clinical exposure, patient education, LGBTQ+ advocacy, research, surgical exposure, innovation, community service, and mentorship. This one-year program immerses the Surgical Scholar in many aspects of clinical surgery through a variety of activities. These include:
- Surgical observation
- Clinical research and writing
- Publishing to scientific journals
- Traveling to educational conferences across the world
- Abstract presentations at annual plastic surgery conferences
- IRB applications
- CME applications
- Grant applications
- Planning Charity events for NextGenFace
- Attending monthly NextGenFace executive meetings
- Planning hospital LGBTQ+ advocacy events
- Journal club with Northwell Health residents
- Mentorship
The Surgical Scholar will function independently, but as part of a broader team including Plastic Surgery faculty, residents, medical students, physician extenders, and support staff. The Surgical Scholar will work directly under the mentorship of Dr. James P. Bradley, Vice Chairman of Plastic Surgery at Northwell Health.
Scholar positions will typically start August 1 of the calendar year and run through July of the next year. Surgical Scholars are paid, full-time, employees of Northwell Health.
